The Garden Cafe – restaurant review

Hello readers!  I realized that yesterday, there was no formal recipe for the Green Smoothie. I didn’t want you to miss out in case you had any questions. so here you go.

“Peaches and Greens” Smoothie:

*we used a vitamix for this recipe. You can use any kind of  high speed blender, but note that it may be a bit more pulpy and it may need to run for a bit longer.

1 peach

1 banana

2 cups spinach

1 cup kale

Splash of OJ

Blend until smooth and pour into glasses.

In addition to our morning smoothies, we also made some fun, quick lunches and snacks , including corn salsa and breakfast quesadillas. We also ate out at a few great restaurants.

Our favorite was The Garden Cafe at The Commons Grounds, which also happened to be where our friends wedding reception had been held. On our last day, we headed back there for our final Hawaiian meal.

The setting is outdoors, under a veranda of sorts. Attached to it is the garden where much of the food is grown. You can enjoy breakfast or lunch and then walk around the gardens.

I ordered the Mighty Green Salad, with macadamia nuts, green papaya, and miso dressing. The hubby ordered the hummus wrap with fire roasted seasonal veggies and a side of mixed greens.

For dessert we ordered vegan blueberry cheese cake and vegan pecan pie.

After lunch, we walked off our meal in the gardens. We saw beautiful flowers, as well as many of the plants we had seen on the menu.

The food was fantastic with many delicious choices for vegetarians, vegans, and people with food allergies. I suspect that even “meat-lovers” would find a hearty menu item they would enjoy and devour. The gardens were beautiful and completely free to roam around.

It was the perfect way to end our trip in Hawaii.

After that, we packed our stuff, headed to the airport and took the Red-eye into Las Vegas. Tune in tomorrow where we cover our LEED certified Green Hotel in Fabulous Las Vegas.

Peace and love and greens,

Jessi
