Juice it Out!

Whoa! Happy December! I can’t believe it is already the last month of 2012 (or quite possibly the last month ever, depending on which calendar you believe).

Green Juices

Earlier this week, I took the chance to participate in a 2-day Juice Cleanse trial, along with the hubby and several local yoga teachers. We were gearing up for a 3-day Juice Cleanse and Detox workshop we’ll be hosting in January. Like the planners we are try to be, we decided to do a trial run and work out any kinks we might find. All day Monday, I made juice. For about 5 hours. And you know what? I loved it!! I had a fantastic time, listening to good tunes, some documentaries, and the buzz of the juicer.Ultimate Juice Cleanse Banner Juice PrepMason JarsIt’s a good thing we recently upgraded, because our old one would have been dead in a second. I made 48 juices! OrangeGreensBeets

It was enough for 4 people to have 3 “meals” and 3 “snacks” for 2 days. Root VeggiesCarrot Juices I froze the juice before delivering them and then left my own in the freezer. Each night, I would take it out and place on the counter or in the fridge to slowly allow it to thaw.

All juices

Why juice? When you juice, you are giving the body a bit of a break from the hard work of digesting food and fiber. When the body has a bit of a break, and only has to digest, fresh, liquid sunshine aka green juice (and non-green juices with greens added in) you start to bring the bodies acidity levels back into balance and clear any funk out of the body. This cleansing is also known as detoxifying the body. When we juice fast, we detox. The gunk gets moved out of the organs, released into the body, its processed through and we eventually work it out of tho body (sweat, digestion, you get the idea).BreakfastBasic Green Breakfast

So here’s the overview of how it went:

The first day went pretty well, I was most hungry at breakfast time.

I was really, really, excited for the next snack or meal.

Herbal teas and water became my new best friends.

After awhile, you pee a LOT. (TMI, sorry)

The second day, not as hungry to start, but super hungry by bed time.

No headaches, stomach aches, or loopiness.

My words did get a little jumbled during my classes on the evening of the second day, though.

Energy levels stayed good. I kept drinking juices and supplementing with tea and water whenever hunger or cravings hit.

Fast food French fries suddenly smelled to die for.

I felt super creative and a bit fearless – maybe I was loopy afterall 😉

After the cleanse:

A little slow to go with the digestive system, but no really stomachaches or pains.

I felt SUPER hungry the day after the cleanse. All day.

All in all, I felt that it was a very successful cleanse. I think it also helped that I had a lot of work to do at home, so I was busy but not around much food or TV commercials of food. There was very little to tempt me from the outside perspective.

We’ll be doing the full blown 3 day juicing plus detox workshop in January, where I’ll be sure to give you an inside scoop, and maybe a recipe or two. The main thing – keep it mostly green only a little fruit.
