DIY: Slow and Easy Apple Butter

Earlier this week, I was prompted with not much to do and a giant bag of apples. I did what any one would do 😉 and headed to the kitchen to make some apple butter. And while I had a ton of time on my hands, this really didn’t take too much time at all. After the peeling and chopping, all I had to do was stir once in a while. The slow cooker did the rest.

And the best part about this apple butter? While I waited patiently with visions of apple butter and toast floating through my head, my house was filled with the warm and cozy smell of baked apples. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Slow and Easy Apple Butter:

*Recipe modified from Oh She Glows

10 large red delicious apples, peeled and sliced

2 tbsp cinnamon

2 tsp nutmeg

And that’s it!

Place your apples in  a crock pot/slow cooker for 4 hours. Stir a few times during the first hour of two until the apples release their juices. This will prevent them from sticking to the pan.

After 4 hours, mash and stir your apple mixture. You now have a pretty tasty apple sauce. But let’s turn it into butter. Put your apple sauce in a your blender and blend until smooth. Add back to your crock pot for 1 hour. Before you serve, stir in the cinnamon and nutmeg.

Let it cool and eat it right away or store in an airtight container (mason jars work great!) in your refrigerator. This tastes great on oatmeal, bread, or just by the spoonful 😉

What is your favorite fall food?

Peace and Love,

Jessi
