Why you shouldn’t do a detox

I know many of you are on the fence about whether or not to sign up for the upcoming 10-Day Cleanse.

Some of it might be about your budget and being able to dedicate that amount to yourself for 10-Days. If so, here is a recent newsletter I sent out with some keys points and ways to save money without even realizing it – in fact, the 10-Day cleanse might save you money simply because there are certain expensive indulgences you’ll be trading in for other less expensive ones.

The bigger reason you might be wavering on signing up is simply this – you aren’t sure if it’s right for you and you don’t want to regret spending your money on a program you won’t use. Which is completely understandable – nobody wants to feel ripped off, or have buyers remorse when they realize what they purchased wasn’t exactly what they were looking for.

Today, I’ll offer a little clarification on why you should and why you shouldn’t do a detox program, no matter what your budget or the length of the program.

1) Dramatic Weight Loss: Depending on the type of cleanse, you may lose a lot of weight, or you may lose very little. If you are looking for rapid, permanent weight loss, a detox is not your best bet. The programs that allow you to lose a great deal of weight are usually the types that are full-on detox programs – cleaning you out from the inside out aka the Master Cleanse, which feature lemon water, cayenne, and maple syrup for a set amount of days. Even juice cleanses that last a few days will help you clear out your insides, but when you go back to eating heavier foods, you might fill back up. So no, huge permanent weight loss is not the thing to look for. In order to keep it up, you would have to keep doing these practices for life, and that’s just not sustainable. Small, healthy weight loss? Yes, that is achievable. A detox will help you drop the EXCESS weight that you carry around from over-eating, bloating, and backed up digestion.

2) Easy fix: While we all dream about finding a quick, easy fix to our problems, would it really be worth it in the end? Think about those things that came easily to you – did you appreciate them as much as the things you worked hard for? That car you were given on your 16th birthday, did you appreciate it as much as the first car you bought with your hard-earned money? Probably not. And it’s the same way here. A cleanse can be the “fix” to your problems, but in order to make the changes last, you’ve got to work hard at them and really appreciate everything that they bring into your life. It’s hard work, but it is worth every second of it.

3) Immediate Health and Wellness: A detox will put you on the right track to getting health and living with less stress, but much like weight loss, it won;t be instantaneous. If you are looking for an instant reversal in your health, a detox won’t do it. But it will set you up for long-term, sustainable health and wellness. A cleanse is simply a kickstart to the rest of your life. It is the intense learning portion that gives you all the tools you need to incorporate back into your moral routine, so you can live healthier and feel happier. So while you will feel better while on the cleanse, you’ll have to learn to use the tools or know when to ask for help after it is over. This is a good thing 0 it means you are making changes that will indeed last a lifetime.

Here are a few things that might bring a little more ease into your decision.

Time commitment: I know you are thinking – “I would love to join, but I’m just not sure I have the time”. Well no worries. You are not alone in your wonder. The truth is, you already have the time, and if you don’t, it’s only for 10 days. Let see how we can shift your schedule around.

You already eat everyday, so making meals won’t change too much. Instead of going out to eat or waiting in the fast food line, you can throw together a quick (truly quick, not lies here) meal that you choose to make. It is customizeable afterall. If you don’t eat breakfast, give yourself 5 extra minutes to make a quick and healthy breakfast you can take with you to work.

You may or may not exercise everyday. If you already do, this is just a simple swap in your routine, no extra time added to your daily schedule. If you aren’t working out already, it’s ok. I’ll help you find time. Before you begin, take the time to really think about your day. How much extra time do you spend on the computer or in front of the tv? Cut back 30-60 minutes where you can and you’ll have plenty of time to move your body. Is your time super crunched? Workout during commercials, on your lunch break in your office, or before you head to the office.

As for the meditation, journaling, breakthrough stuff – set aside 10 minutes a day. That’s all you need. If you have more time, go for it. But 10 will do the trick. Wherever and whenever you can find it, just take the time to get comfortable, feel calm and reconnect for 10 solid minutes a day. And that will bring you HUGE changes 🙂

3 E-Guides and Coaching Calls:

The 3 guides you’ll receive for food, exercise, and stress release are all yours to keep. They are your resources to use whenever you need them. This means you can redo the cleanse at anytime or use bits and pieces when needed as you incorporate them into your life. And it also means that if you start the cleanse and realize it is too much right now, or you would understand more the second time around, you can do it again when it’s right for you!

This goes for the coaching calls as well. If you can’t attend them or if you want to use them again later, they will be recorded and sent to your inbox.
