What’s in my bag? How to stay healthy on-the-go

This post is sponsored by LARABAR and I was compensated for my time, but all opinions are my own.

DSC_0060 One of the hardest parts of incorporating healthy habits into your lifestyle, is being busy and on-the-go. Even if you have intentions to get in a yoga practice or balanced workout, eat a healthy breakfast, pack a lunch, meditate, and cook a fresh dinner, it can be hard to fit it all into your day. Schedules are busy and can change in a moment’s notice. Rather than give up completely, I like to keep a few thing on hand that keep me balanced and healthy, even on the busiest of day.

Here are a few things from my bag:

DSC_0069Hydration: When you are busy, running from place to place, it is easy to get dehydrated. You might not sip on enough water during the day if you don’t have it with you, or you might end up in the drive thru, ordering another coffee or soda, which only leaves you more thirsty.

This is why I always carry a bottle of water, or just a glass of water, with me when I leave the house. That way I know I’ll have a healthy drink that will support me on those busy days.

DSC_0065Healthy, packaged snack: I don’t normally go for pre-packaged foods and snacks, but if I need something I can grab and take with me, packaged is usually the way to go. The key is to make sure it contains simple ingredients, most of them organic or all-natural, not full of chemicals and additives. My usual go-to is a LARABAR. I am a big fan of cashews (since I was a kid), and LARABAR has a ton of cashew and date bars, with a few other ingredients like chocolate, coconut, or lime. They help keep my hunger form getting out of control (I get stomach aches when I’m hungry), and I don’t feel guilty about eating them.

DSC_0062Lotion: As the weather gets cooler and drier, so does your skin. While it may sound a bit vain, taking care of your skin in super important. Dry hands can start to crack and bleed, and cause serious pain if you don’t pay attention. I always carry around a deeply hydrating, natural lotion to help keep my hands from peeling and cracking.

DSC_0064Fresh Fruit: In addition to a packaged snack, I like to carry around a fresh fruit. I like something light and juicy that has a bit of crunch. It helps your brain feel like you are getting more and satisfies you longer. My favorites are green apples and green grapes (in a container of course).

DSC_0063Books and Journals: I also like to keep something to read or write on in my bag. This way, if I have a break I can relax with a book, rather than scrolling through the internet. Its more calming and grounding, and a great break from the day. Having a journal or notepad in my bag is perfect for ideas that pop up when I am away form my computer. If I want to write a blog post or have an idea for a book, article, or project, I can jot it down in my notebook, rather than stress about forgetting it.

DSC_0067Yoga Mat: Movement is key to health. My yoga mat goes just about everywhere I go. It’s either connected to my bag, or waiting in my car. Keeping my mat on hand means I can hit the studio, or even a park, within a moments notice. It limits my excuses to not show up that day if I already have it with me, ready to go.
