Gluten-Free/ Life/ Tips/ Weekly Tip

Food Ingredients and Labels

Sometimes even the most seemingly healthy foods and labels are actually not quite so healthy for you. Some of the foods you were told were the best for your growing up and into your early adulthood might turn out to have very little nutritional value. And even as you head down the health food aisle at your local grocery store, your bound to see a variety of labels, such as gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan, dairy-free, sugar-free, fat-free, carb-free, high protein, organic, and all-natural. And none of this means that it is or isn’t healthy for you.

So what do you do when you want to eat healthy and clean food?

The key is to look at the labels, read the ingredients, and know what all of these mean. There are a few things to look for when you are reaching for healthy items and a few things to avoid when looking for healthy items. And sometimes, these are the same label.

Sound confusing? No worries. Instead of getting overwhelmed and saying “forget it!”, in today’s video, we’ll break these down and learn what to look for to keep you healthy and happy from here on out.

Make a list of these items ad labels, take it with you to the store and be a champion of healthy grocery shopping. You’ll be surprised what you do and don;t find in some of your packaged foods.

*And remember, its ok to splurge once in awhile. This isn’t an all or nothing type of approach. If you accidentally buy something with one of these or you are craving a twinkie or Mac n Cheese- have it, see how you feel, and see how it really tastes to you after eating healthy.
