As the holidays come around, I find that I am always searching for a snack I can eat around the party table. This is for a couple of reasons:
1) I am a hungry girl. I like to eat and I get hungry easily.
2) Most of the dips have dairy and gluten, and a party is no place for a stomachache.
It’s not just the unhealthiness and not wanting “bad” foods, because there are no I-will-never-touch-this-again foods. A splurge or a bite of an unhealthy food at one or two parties isn’t going to sabotage your diet, especially when you fill the rest of your plate and your day with healthy options. But if you have dietary restrictions, allergies, or you are just picky, you might find that you are limited at these functions.
Instead of not eating, I like to whip up a quick dip to bring along with me, or to serve to my guests if I’m hosting. And not only do I like to make this for others, I like to make this for a quick snack at the spur of the moment. It comes together in under 5 minutes and tastes like it took an hour.
*This is also an update of my previous cheezy queso dip*
- 1 cup nutritional yeast flakes
- 1 tbsp coconut flour (or other gluten free flour)
- ½ cup plain soy or coconut milk
- 1 tbsp vegan butter or coconut oil
- *optional 1 tsp chili powder, ½ tsp cayenne powder
- Melt butter or oil on stove over medium-high heat.
- Add in liquid and whisk together.
- Once combined, add in nutritional yeast and whisk until smooth.
- To thicken, add flour, using more or less as needed.
- Add your spices to heat it up a bit.
- Serve with your favorite organic, multigrain, gluten-free chips.
What dips do you like to recreate in a healthy way at home?
Peace and Love,
Jessi
